Project Details

These upgrades will help prevent potential outages, address the City's growing energy demands, and replace outdated equipment to guarantee long-term service reliability and quality.

Project Timeline

To minimise the impact on businesses and residents in the affected area, work will be carried out in phases over a 13-week period. Parking will be affected based on the specific nature of the work being performed.

Phase 1

  • May 20 to mid-June: reconstruction of Hydro Westmount infrastructure, north-side between Prince Albert Avenue and Grosvenor Avenue
  • May 20 to the end of May: localized reconstruction of south-side sidewalks between the western City limit and Prince Albert Avenue
  • Mid-June to early July: reconstruction of north-side sidewalks between Prince Albert Avenue and Grosvenor Avenue

Phase 2

  • Late August: paving of the last layer of asphalt over the entire work area

Mobility and Parking

  • One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained and accessible throughout the project, except during the final asphalt paving operation scheduled for August.
  • The final asphalt paving operation will require the complete closure of Sherbrooke Street West for an estimated maximum of five nights. This work will take place in August, overnight, between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. During these closures, vehicular access will be prohibited, but pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
  • Pedestrian access, including access to all homes and businesses, will always be maintained.
  • On-street parking on Sherbrooke Street will be optimized as much as possible throughout the project. However, parking restrictions and availability will vary depending on the progress and specific work phases.
  • Parking payment stations will be removed from the north side of Sherbrooke Street during the project. Motorists may pay their parking via the mobile app or by using a station on the south side of the street.
  • Efforts will be made to designate areas for deliveries and other short-term loading needs.
  • Public laneways behind the buildings on Sherbrooke Street will remain open.
  • Temporary traffic changes will be implemented on neighbouring streets during the project.
