Eco-Friendly Holidays: Shop local, Green Grants, workshops, and sustainable creations

This holiday season, support our local merchants, and get inspired by Westmount’s programmes to give eco-friendly gifts. You could receive up to $150 back on your sustainable purchases!

Support Westmount Merchants

The holiday sales are the perfect opportunity to visit Westmount merchants. Buying locally reduces transportation and environmental costs and supports the local economy. To learn more about Westmount merchants, visit quartiergreene.ca and victoriavillage.ca.

Green Grants

Find something for everyone on your list with inspiration from items covered by the City's Green Grants programme ! Eligible products include:

  • BIXI memberships, bicycles, electric longboards, and kick scooters
  • Reusable menstrual underwear and cups, clothing and shoe repairs, reusable diapers
  • Low-flow toilets and showerheads, bidets, reusable water bottles, beeswax cling film, and reusable gift wrap and travel utensil kits. 

Many other products are also eligible for rebates of up to $150!

Complete the online form by the end of the year to receive a check, subject to eligibility, for purchases made in 2025. Maximum of two applications per address.

The Studio: Explore, learn, and create unique gifts

Located at the Westmount Public Library, the Studio is a space where people of all ages can create and discover. Free workshops and access to various equipment may inspire you to make homemade gifts! 

  • Participate in regular workshops on fiber arts, 2D/3D design, audiovisual media, coding, and DIY projects.
  • Enjoy open access and drop-in hours on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Receive guidance from qualified facilitators to learn new techniques, repair or upcycle items, and explore creative projects.

Make handmade, sustainable, zero-waste gifts by joining one of these workshops:

Mosaic Workshop: Decorate a Flowerpot with Reclaimed Materials

  • December 2, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., Victoria Hall
  • Explore mosaic art using reclaimed materials to create a unique, eco-friendly flowerpot.

Visible Mending & Embroidery Basics

  • December 5, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., Victoria Hall (in French)
  • Learn creative ways to repair or transform your clothing using visible mending and embroidery techniques.

Jewellery-Making with Artist Omar Gammaoui

  • December 13, 1 – 3 p.m., Victoria Hall
  • Design your own earrings, bracelets, or necklaces from recycled materials. The artist will also present a small exhibition of his work.
