Eligible households can still opt-in for free home water testing in 2025.
Single-family homes or a residential buildings of 8 units of less, built before 1971, that have not previously been tested by the City, are eligible for Westmount's Lead Sampling Programme. In 2025, up to 250 tests are available and must be performed between July and September. Testing appointments require approximately 45 minutes, and all participating households will be informed of their test results via a personalized letter when the study is complete.
The City of Montreal’s water service produces the water that is distributed by Westmount’s network. This water is of excellent quality and contains practically no lead. However, lead can sometimes dissolve into the drinking water when it stagnates or flows through lead plumbing components. Westmount has been actively replacing old lead pipes in its network since taking ownership from the City of Montreal in 2006, but cannot intervene on the private portion of pipes. The City's Lead Sampling Programme and Subsidy Programme for the replacement of private lead pipes support and encourage homeowners in Westmount to learn about their water supply and take corrective action, if applicable.
Several lead sampling tests are still available to be booked for 2025. If your home is eligible, you may request lead sampling via the online form.
