The Royal Montreal Regiment Celebrates Its Centenary

Royal Montreal Regiment Lamp Post Banner

The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR) Foundation is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Sainte-Catherine West Armoury. Inaugurated in 1925, this iconic site pays tribute to the RMR soldiers who fell in combat and honors the enduring ties between the Regiment and the Westmount community.

To honour this legacy and celebrate the centennial, the public is invited to participate in a series of commemorative activities and learn about the awareness campaigns:

  • Lamp Post Banners: Ten commemorative banners have been installed along Ste-Catherine Street (between Bethune and Abbott) to honour individuals who served with the RMR.
  • Poppy Campaign: From October 31 to November 11, veterans, reservists, and friends of the RMR will distribute poppies at Metro Westmount (4840 Sherbrooke W.), IGA Alexis-Nihon, and 5 Saisons (1280 Greene Ave).
  • Museum Exhibit: Armoury or Bust: A Century in Westmount, an exhibition tracing the history of the RMR and its deep local roots, will run from November 3 to 11 at the RMR armoury. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., admission is free.
  • Book Launch: On November 7, the illustrated history Glory Never Dies by former Montreal Gazette journalist Alan Hustak will be officially launched.
  • Remembrance Day Ceremony: The City of Westmount cordially invites the public to its annual Remembrance Day ceremony, to be held at the Cenotaph near Westmount City Hall, on Sunday, November 9, at 2 p.m.

These events offer a unique opportunity to reflect, remember, and engage with the proud history of the RMR and its enduring connection to the Westmount community.
