Reopening of the Westmount Public Library on April 9

The Westmount Public Library will reopen its doors to the public on Thursday, April 9, starting at 1 p.m.

The reopening follows a final inspection conducted by a specialized team of pest control experts and City inspectors, who confirmed that the facilities are fully prepared to safely welcome the public once again.

Over the past few weeks, several measures have been implemented to ensure optimal conditions for staff and patrons.

  • Targeted treatments were carried out in several phases to eliminate any presence of bed bugs and ensure residual protection.
  • Ventilation systems were upgraded, including the replacement of filters and the full recommissioning of the facilities.
  • A thorough cleaning of the entire building was carried out by specialised teams.
  • Certain pieces of furniture were removed and replaced to ensure a sanitised environment.

Enhanced preventive measures are also being implemented:

  • All returned documents will be inspected before being put back into circulation.
  • Any item showing suspicious signs will be immediately removed, isolated, and treated using specialised equipment.
  • A comprehensive preventive inspection will be conducted on April 16 using specialised detection dogs.
  • Additional measures are currently being considered to optimize pest management practices.

The City of Westmount thanks residents for their patience and support, as well as the Atwater Library for its exceptional cooperation during this time.
