Pool Safety: Extension granted by the Government of Quebec

On September 19, 2025, the Government of Quebec announced a postponement, for a period of at least one year, of the requirement for residential pool owners to comply with the Residential Pool Safety Regulation.

This decision, made public by the Minister of Municipal Affairs, aims to provide homeowners with additional time and to allow for the development of solutions that better reflect on-the-ground realities. No penalties will be enforced before fall 2026.

What this means for Westmount residents:

  • Pool owners benefit from additional time to comply with the Regulation.
  • Safety remains a top priority, and the City encourages residents to continue following best practices to help prevent accidents

The City of Westmount will keep residents informed as soon as new details or updates to the Regulation are confirmed by the Government of Quebec.
