The election period officially begins today in the City of Westmount. Voters will elect a mayor and eight (8) municipal councillors.
The period for submitting nomination papers begins today and runs until October 3, according to the schedule indicated on the public notice of election. Unless any seats are filled by acclamation at the end of the nomination period, electors will vote for a councillor to represent their district, as well as for the mayor.
Vote
If more than one person runs for either of these positions, voting will take place over three (3) days.
Other voting option available upon request
Electors who are unable to travel due to health reasons may request a home visit from a mobile voting team. In this case, they must submit an application to the returning officer no later than October 17.
Running for candidate
Anyone interested in becoming a member of the municipal council must file a nomination paper with the returning officer no later than Friday, October 3, at 4:30 p.m. To run for the seat of councillor, candidates must obtain the supporting signatures of at least 25 electors. To run for the seat of mayor, at least 50 signatures are required. Any candidate who wishes to incur expenses to promote their candidacy must obtain official authorization, which can be requested on the nomination paper. Without this authorization, candidates may not use personal funds or assets for campaign purposes.
