Pilot Project: Targeted management of green spaces

a field in bloom

In November 2025, a targeted management pilot project is launched with the installation of pre-flowered areas on the roof of the Westmount Recreation Centre.

Targeted management involves reducing interventions in green spaces—a strategy that is both environmentally friendly and economical. In short, grassy areas will be replaced by perennial flower beds that perform better environmentally and require less maintenance.

The seed mixtures used will increase the presence of native plants in the City and promote biological diversity. Less frequent and more select interventions will allow these gardens to develop greater resistance to pests and drought, compared to traditional lawns.

This initiative aligns with the methodology of the City's horticulture and arboriculture team: including more native species, ensuring greater biodiversity for healthy green spaces, and applying a responsible maintenance strategy that balances citizen and environmental priorities.
