Different Parks, Different Play

The City would like to remind residents that, for safety and comfort reasons, dogs are not allowed in playgrounds and on sports fields.

In accordance with municipal by-law 1522, dogs must always be kept on a leash in public spaces in Westmount, unless otherwise indicated. We kindly remind you to respect the signage, as dogs are not allowed in all parks.

Failure to comply with the regulations can lead to significant damage to equipment, can harm local biodiversity, and compromises the experience for all users, especially families and children.

Respecting these rules helps to:

  • preserve equipment so everyone can enjoy it safely;
  • protect biodiversity by limiting uncontrolled dog presence;
  • ensure cleanliness and health safety by preventing dog waste in play areas;
  • comply with the law, which prohibits dogs in playgrounds and requires leashes in all public spaces where dogs are permitted, excluding dog parks.

Fines may be issued for violations.

Where can you let your dog run free?

Westmount offers several fenced dog parks where your dog can run off-leash during the following hours:

  • King George Park: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Westmount Athletic Grounds: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Westmount Park: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

At Summit Woods, hours vary by season:

  • November 1 to April 15: off-leash from 5 a.m. to midnight
  • April 16 to June 15: dogs must be leashed at all times
  • June 16 to October 31: leashed from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; off-leash outside these hours

An City-issued permit is required for all dogs, and a curfew is in effect in all public parks from midnight to 5 a.m.

Please respect the signage, keep your dog leashed outside dog parks, and use the designated off-leash areas. Together, let’s keep our parks safe and enjoyable for everyone.
