Municipal Electoral List: Final call for registration, correction, or removal requests

The City of Westmount reminds residents that the Board of Revisors for the Electoral List will hold its sessions on the following dates:

Without an appointment:

  • Thursday, October 16, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Friday, October 17, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

With an appointment:

  • Monday, October 20, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Time slots will be available from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, October 20, in 15-minute intervals, for the Revision Commission. To book a time slot, please call the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer at 514-989-5280. To ensure everything runs smoothly, please arrive on time. If not, your appointment may be cancelled and the Commission will proceed with the next file.

Why is this important?

To ensure you are eligible to vote in the municipal elections on November 2, 2025.

Three types of requests can be made:

  1. Registration request (to be added to the electoral list)
    Can only be made on October 16, 17, 20 and 21.
  2. Correction request
    (e.g.: name or date of birth error)
    Accepted on October 16, 17, 20 and 21.
  3. Removal request
    (to remove an ineligible, deceased, or relocated person)
    Accepted on October 16 and 17.

Required Documents

To prove Canadian citizenship:

  • Valid Canadian passport
  • Birth certificate (Canada)
  • Canadian citizenship certificate

To prove identity and address:

  • Health insurance card
  • Driver’s license
  • Hospital card
  • Student card
  • Recent bill (electricity, phone, etc.)
  • Bank statement or other official document with your name and address

Who can submit a request?

If you are unable to attend in person on October 16, 17, or 21, you authorise someone to act on your behalf with copies of all the required identification documents.

Those authorised to represent you are

  • Your spouse
  • A person living at the same address
  • A family member (parent, child, brother, sister)

Note: A person other than the one whose name appears on the electoral list may request that a name be removed from the list, but only if specific conditions are met.

Verifications and Mandatory Forms

Any modification to the electoral list is an official and strictly regulated process. Each request will be carefully reviewed by the Board of Revisors.

Depending on the nature of the request, the Board may:

  • Ask for a witness to support the request;
  • Send a revision officer to the stated address;
  • Hold the request pending additional documentation.

All requests must be accompanied by an official form duly completed, either by the applicant or by a member of the Board. The handling of the electoral list must never be taken lightly; it ensures the integrity of the democratic process.

Who can vote?

To vote in the upcoming municipal elections, you must meet all the following conditions:

  •  Be 18 years of age or older on election day;
  • Be a Canadian citizen;
  • Not be under guardianship or have lost your voting rights by judicial decision;
  • Not have been found guilty of an electoral fraud offense;
  • Meet oneof the following residency/property conditions:
    • Be domiciled in Westmount and have lived in Québec for at least six months.
    • Have, for at least 45 days, been the owner of a property or the occupant of a business establishment located in Westmount (in accordance with the Act Respecting Municipal Taxation).

Important reminder

To vote in the 2025 municipal elections, being registered on the electoral list is MANDATORY. If you are not registered, you will not be able to exercise your right to vote.

Haven’t receive your yellow “Registration Notice” card on October 9?

This means you are not registered on the electoral list.

Present yourself on October 16, 17 or 21 at the Board of Revisors for the electoral list, located at Westmount City Hall, 4333 Sherbrooke Street West (or authorise an eligible representative to act on your behalf) to register.
