Dear Westmount residents,
The new school year is here, and for a smooth transition, road safety is our top priority. Our school zones will be bustling again, and it's our collective responsibility to be vigilant. I ask you all to be extra careful, respect speed limits, and pay close attention at pedestrian crossings. The safety of our children is everyone's business.
This summer was particularly busy with roadwork, and several streets are still under construction. For your safety and that of the workers, it's crucial to respect the signage that is in place.
I wish you all an excellent start to the school year!
Christina M. Smith
Mayor of Westmount
To ensure a smooth and safe return to classes, give extra consideration to these safety rules and recommendations:
As in previous years, Public Safety officers will patrol around school drop off areas during peak traffic times to ensure the safety of all road users. The City has also recently implemented new traffic calming measures and signage near schools to address concerns raised in a recent survey on school zone safety.
