The City of Westmount strongly condemns the attempted arson attack targeting a synagogue in the City during the night of June 4–5.

“I strongly condemn this attempted arson attack. I would like to thank the members of Westmount Public Safety and the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal for their swift response and exemplary collaboration. Thanks to their vigilance and professionalism, the situation was addressed quickly. The safety of our residents, institutions, and community gathering places remains a top priority for the City.”

– Michael Stern, Mayor of Westmount

The City also wishes to recognize the work of the Westmount Public Safety Department, whose rapid response and close collaboration with the SPVM contributed to the effective management of the situation.

Westmount Public Safety continues to work closely with the SPVM as the investigation proceeds. As a precautionary measure, special attention will be given to places of worship throughout the City to help ensure a safe environment for residents, congregants, and visitors alike.
