A gas leak is currently underway on Mountain Avenue, between Sherbrooke Street and Anwoth Avenue. The leak may have been caused by roadwork in the area. The Fire Department responded immediately to the scene. As a precautionary measure, residents living within the affected block (between Sherbrooke and Anwoth) have been evacuated.
The City of Westmount asks the public to avoid the area to facilitate the work of emergency teams and to ensure everyone's safety.
Énergir specialized crews are on site to stop the leak and complete the necessary repairs.
To allow crews to intervene safely, power had to be shut off in the area. Hydro Westmount teams are on location. Currently, 503 customers are without power. Electricity is expected to be restored in the area around 6:00 p.m.
