Time Capsule 2125
On October 1, 2025, a new time capsule was buried in Westmount, this time in the vicinity of the Westmount Public Library.
Following the last Council meeting before the 2025 municipal elections, the mayor, city councilors, and a few employees involved in the project went to an undisclosed location for a very special event: the burial of the time capsule. This is part of a new tradition in Westmount to preserve a snapshot of the present moment, which will then be discovered by our descendants when it is unearthed in 100 years. Who knows how our City will have changed by 2125!
Unearthing the previous time capsule in 2022
In 2022, we unearthed the time capsule that had been placed on the grounds of City Hall 100 years earlier. This capsule contained treasures from the past, including newspapers, a list of municipal employees, coins from the King George era, and photos of the City and its important landmarks, among other items.
The capsule we have now buried for a future generation includes several objects and documents that provide an overview of our City: recent photos, a brochure of the Library's current programming, official items (caps, shirts, objects) from the City's 150th anniversary, winning entries from the Westmount: Now and beyond contest (from when the items in the last time capsule were unveiled), and many others.
