Waste Collection

Opt in to notifications in the Citizen Portal and never miss a collection date! 

Create your account or modify your existing one to receive notifications by email or SMS, as you prefer! You will be reminded the day before a scheduled collection at your address.

General Information

  • For each collection, place your bin street side between 8 p.m. the night before and 7 a.m. the day of the collection.
  • Some lanes are inaccessible to collection trucks, in which case collection is done street side. Consult the map to confirm the accessibility of your lane.

Garbage

  • Single-family homes and residential buildings of 2 to 8 units:
    • Household waste is collected once weekly.
  • Residential buildings of 9 to 29 units:
    • Trash is collected once weekly.
  • All other addresses:
    • Trash is collected twice weekly.

Recycling

Recyclable materials (blue bin) are collected once weekly for all addresses, on Wednesdays.

Compost

Food waste (green bin) is collected once weekly.

During the summer, garden waste is collected once weekly for street side addresses, and once weekly for lane side addresses.

You may also bring your garden waste to the Belvedere depot upon presentation of a proof of residence or a valid contractor permit granted by the City.

Hazardous Household Waste and Electronics

Head your nearest ecocentre.

Bulky Items

Collection is scheduled on the first Tuesday of the month, by registration only, from May to October.

Dogs

From June 16 to October 31, the periods for walking your dog on or off leash at Summit Woods are as follows:

  • from 5 to 10 a.m.—off leash
  • from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.—on leash
  • from 5 p.m. to midnight—off leash

A person may be responsible for a maximum of 4 dogs at a time. All dogs must have a valid Westmount dog licence.

Modified Business Hours

Summer hours for municipal offices are in effect until September 4, 2026:

  • Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Regular hours resume on September 8, 2026:

  • Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Westmount Public Library is closed on Sundays from June 21 to September 6, 2026.

All public buildings are closed for the following holidays:

  • June 24 — fête nationale du Québec (Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day)
  • July 1 — Canada Day
  • September 1 — Labour Day

Parks

Parks in Westmount are intended for public use and must remain open and accessible at all times. Here are a few reminders to help everyone make the most of our parks this summer:

General

  • All Westmount parks are closed to the public at night between midnight and 5 a.m.
  • Comfort stations are open between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
  • It is forbidden to feed birds and wild animals.
  • Park pathways are for pedestrian use only. Thank you for walking your bike, scooter, skateboard, etc. 
  • Several parks have splash pads where everyone can cool off. However, it is forbidden to bathe in any pond or fountain.
  • It is forbidden to smoke any substance, and alcohol is prohibited at all times in Westmount parks and green spaces.
  • Noise, including music and loudspeakers, must not disturb the tranquility of the park.
  • The practice of certain activities (golf, archery, etc.) is not safe in our parks and green spaces. Please use your judgement.
  • In general, no occupation of public property is permitted in parks and green spaces. These areas must remain accessible to all.

Dogs

  • Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times, except in dog parks.
  • Dogs, even on a leash, are not permitted in play areas.

Events and Gatherings

  • The reservation or delineation of an exclusive area for private use within a park is not permitted.
  • Gatherings of 20 people or less are permitted, and no permit is required.
  • The installation of furniture, such as tables, is not permitted. Please use the park furniture that is available to everyone.
  • Decorations are permitted provided they do not harm the environment, and are removed and disposed of properly before leaving the site.
  • Barbecuing is prohibited in Westmount parks and green spaces.

Sports and Recreation

Activities and Registration

The summer session begins on June 23. Registration is ongoing so long as there is space available.

Registration for fall activities begins on August 4 for Westmount residents.

Summer Camp

From June 22 to August 14, 2026, the City's summer day camp is offered by registration to children 6 to 14 years old. Older children, 15 to 17 years old, may register as CITs (counsellors in training).

Priority for spaces is given to Westmount residents, and spaces are filled on a first come, first served basis. Non-residents may register their children one week prior to each camp session start date, if space is available.

Municipal Pool

The outdoor pool at the Westmount Recreation Centre is open for the season until Labour Day.

To access the pool, a valid Facility Membership Card or guest pass is mandatory at all times. Guest passes for general swim can be purchased at the pool desk (debit or credit only) for same-day use.

Tennis and Pickleball

Play racket sports in Westmount parks:

Use of these courts is reserved for Westmount residents with a valid Facility Access Card and guests with a valid guest pass.

Impacts of Montréal Water Main Work on Westmount

The City of Westmount is aligning with the Ville de Montréal’s directives to support the regional effort to reduce peak drinking water demand and relieve pressure on the water supply system while the McTavish supply corridor is operating with reduced redundancy.

The following are notably affected: operating hours of municipal splash pads, water features in Westmount parks, municipal watering.
