A draft regulation to strengthen the protection of trees!
At a regular meeting held on 3 February 2025, Council deposited draft amendment by-law 1625 entitled : By-law to amend certain provisions of the Zoning By-law concerning the planting and protection of trees and planted areas in side yards. The purpose of the by-law is not only to strengthen tree protection but also to promote more sustainable tree management in the City of Westmount.

In parallel with these amendments, a draft by-law amending the fines for breaching a regulatory provision, particularly in the case of felling a tree, was also adopted. Draft by-law 1626 entitled: By-law to amend various planning by-laws in order to modify the amount of fines is intended to bring local fines into line with those provided for in the Act respecting land use planning and development.
