Reducing Electricity Consumption During Periods of Extreme Cold

Outdoor power lines

Hydro Westmount's network is subject to high demand during periods of extreme cold. This high demand can lead to circuit overloads and power interruptions. The City of Westmount also incurs heavy penalties during periods of high electricity consumption

For all these reasons, when the temperature reaches -18°C, Hydro Westmount asks its customers to reduce their electrical energy consumption during peak hours: Monday to Friday, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

We recommend that you use your appliances outside these peak hours, especially those that consume a lot of hot water, such as washing machines and dishwashers.

To find out more about peak periods, and how you can reduce your consumption through simple actions, visit Hydro Québec's page on managing your consumption during extreme cold.
