National Public Works Week: Thank you to our teams!

2026 Week of Public Works

On the occasion of National Public Works Week, the City wishes to recognise the essential work carried out every day by its teams, whose dedication contributes directly to the quality of life in Westmount.

Behind each of these services are skilled and dedicated women and men who take pride in their work and are committed to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming living environment.

The Public Works Department is made up of a team of 105 employees, including 85 blue collar workers and 20 office employees and managers, who work together in a coordinated manner to plan, maintain, repair, respond, and manage emergency situations efficiently.

The Department includes several areas of expertise, including:

  • Arboriculture
  • Horticulture
  • Waste management
  • Road maintenance
  • Parks and green spaces
  • Water and sewer systems
  • Vehicle mechanics
  • Building maintenance
  • Administration

Every day, these teams help maintain and operate the infrastructure and public spaces that support our community, including:

  • 57 km of roads, helping ensure safer and more efficient travel;
  • 49 km of water networks and 57 km of sewer networks, both essential to public health;
  • 29 municipal buildings that support community activities, services, and daily operations;
  • 14 parks and green spaces that contribute to a welcoming and sustainable environment;
  • 180 vehicles and pieces of equipment, carefully maintained and operated to meet operational needs in the field.

Whether carrying out planned operations and seasonal maintenance, or responding to unexpected breakdowns and emergencies, our teams are always ready to act. They often work early in the morning, late into the evening, on weekends, and sometimes under demanding conditions, always with professionalism and consistency.

During this week of recognition, we sincerely thank everyone who contributes, directly or indirectly, to keeping Westmount clean, functional, green, and welcoming.

Happy National Public Works Week to the entire team!
