Snow Removal

Snow removal operations, including salting and plowing, may take place at any time around the clock as needed. The priorities for snow clearing are:

    • school and daycare zones;
    • commercial streets;
    • fire routes;
    • major arteries;
    • sidewalks;
    • slopes.

Sign up for alerts via the Citizen Portal to be notified about snow removal operations.

Parking

During snow removal operations, signs indicating parking restrictions will be installed at least 12 hours before operations begin on any given street.

  • The City will not phone residents in advance to remind them to move their parked vehicles.
  • Parked vehicles that interfere with snow removal will be towed.
  • If your vehicle has been towed, contact Public Safety at 514 989-5222

Intense Cold Weather

Frigid winter weather increases the demand on Hydro Westmount’s electrical grid, potentially leading to overloaded circuits and power interruptions. Furthermore, heavy penalties are charged to the City of Westmount for over-consumption. That is why Hydro Westmount asks customers to reduce electricity use, especially during peak hours, when the temperature dips below -18oC:

  • Morning: from 6 to 9 a.m.
  • Evening: from 4 to 8 p.m.

Delay using major appliances until after these periods, particularly those requiring hot water like dishwashers and laundry machines. It is sustainable and cost-effective to reduce energy consumption during intense cold weather.

For more information including easy ways to reduce consumption, consult Hydro Quebec
