WRC hosts two hockey tournaments
The Westmount Recreation Centre was the scene of 30 hockey games in four days, as two invitational tournaments took place November 30 to December 2. In addition to the regular WRC activities, teams from various Montreal schools competed Thursday and Friday during the day, while the annual SWAT Old-timers Charity Hockey Tournament took place in the evenings, and throughout the weekend.
The annual SHS Juvenile and Bantam Hockey Tournament, hosted by Selwyn House School, included 13 games played by eight teams.
Now in its 28th year, the Senior Westmount All Star Team (SWAT) tournament – which this year brought together eight senior hockey teams and two exhibition teams to play 17 games – is organized in support of research programmes at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and the Centre hospitalier universitaire Sainte-Justine. Tournament organizer Jim West – a member of the winning SWAT team – was also named volunteer of the year.
