Westmount Wellness Workshops 2020

As a result of the pandemic, many of us are experiencing increased anxiety and agitation that affects us physically and mentally. The Westmount Sports and Recreation Department offers six weeks of wellness workshops on Wednesdays and Thursdays to help those who need relaxing and comforting activities to take care of themselves and improve their mental health.

These virtual workshops are offered at $5 each, starting November 11th and ending December 17th on ZOOM. Choose your activity and register now.

Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020 – 1:30 p.m.

EXPRESSING THE SELF & CONNECTING WITH OTHERS THROUGH DANCE with Stéphanie

We will explore how dance is a simple and accessible movement practice, for everyone. It can enhance one's creativity, self-expression, self esteem and confidence. We will also discuss how during times of social isolation, dance cultivates connection and collaboration between participants both on and after the dance floor experience and can have a range of health and social benefits!

THE ART OF MINDFULNESS with Robert Wise, co-founder of RISE

Mindfulness can help you manage the stress of today’s world. It has been shown to have a positive impact on stress, attention, and even relationships. A range of benefits of Mindfulness include stress reduction, more focus, less emotional reactivity, relation satisfaction, boosts to working memory and more cognitive flexibility.

Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020 – 1:30 p.m.

YOGA NIDRA with Giovanna

Yoga Nidra is a powerful meditation technique, also known as “yogic sleep” or “effortless relaxation”. This meditation will be practiced lying down and the teacher will guide you through various visualizations into a deeply restful state. One hour of Yoga Nidra is said to be as restful as several hours sleep.

THERAPEUTIC ART with Cara Rosa

Let your creativity bring you peace! A self-care directive to improve your well-being using your imagination and a few art materials.
