Voting by mail
Eligibility criteria
You can vote by mail if you are in one of the following situations:
- Your domicile is located in the territory of the municipality: and
- You are domiciled in an eligible health establishment*;
- You are 70 years of age or older on polling day ;
- You are unable to get around for health reasons or you are a caregiver domiciled at the same address as such a person.
- If your domicile is not in the municipality, you must:
- Be the owner of a building (cottage, apartment building, etc.) or occupy a business establishment (as a tenant of a commercial space housing a restaurant or a hair salon, for example) located on the territory of the municipality for at least 12 months; and
- Have transmitted an application for entry on the list of electors or a power of attorney, in writing and within the prescribed deadlines, to the municipality.
* An eligible health establishment is a hospital centre, a CHSLD, a rehabilitation centre and a private seniors’ residence listed in the register established under the Act respecting health services and social services (chapter S-4.2) and a hospital centre or reception centre within the meaning of the Act respecting health services and social services for Cree Native persons (chapter S-5).
To vote by mail, eligible electors must make a verbal or written request to the returning officer no later than the indicated deadline for the current election.
If you are requesting to vote by mail because your situation matches one of those listed above, your application will be valid for the current poll and any recommenced proceedings arising from this election.

To apply for voting by mail, you must fill out the following request form and return it to the Office of returning officer.
How to vote by mail
If you are registered to vote by mail, you will receive a package by mail including your ballots. The packages will be sent out in the weeks leading up to the vote.
Ballots and the prescribed forms must be received at the office of the returning officer by the deadline indicated for the current election.
