Snow removal 2022-2023: noise regulation and overnight snowloading

As the winter season is officially set to begin on December 22, the City would like to inform you of the following :

  • NO OVERNIGHT SNOW LOADING THIS WINTER
Due to a number of factors, including a labour shortage affecting many municipalities, the City of Westmount will not be conducting overnight snow loading operations. When necessary, snow loading will only take place between 4 a.m. and 5 p.m.

As in previous years, all regular snow removal operations (spreading abrasive, clearing snow) will be carried out. School and daycare areas, commercial streets, fire service routes, major arteries, sidewalks and sloped streets will continue to receive priority snow removal. An interactive map will allow for real-time monitoring of snow removal operations.

  • NOISE REGULATION FOR CONTRACTORS
On November 7, 2022, City Council passed By-law 1592 (Section 2), prohibiting private snow removal contractors from using tonal type backup alarms on their vehicles. Only white noise (broadband) backup alarms are permitted.
