In accordance with the Quebec government’s health and safety directives related to COVID-19, the City of Westmount will open its tennis courts beginning May 20th for the 2020 season.
The hard surface courts at the Westmount Athletic Grounds and King George Park, as well as the synthetic court at Devon Park, will open for play on Wednesday, May 20th. The hard surface courts in Westmount Park will open on Saturday, May 23rd, following repairs to the lighting system, which are scheduled to be completed Friday. The courts at King George Park will close for a period of two days the week of May 25th and the court at Devon Park for one day in early June to repair the lighting systems.
Due to the government’s COVID-19 gradual return to work order, there is a shortage of contractor bids for the preparation of the clay tennis courts. The preparation of the clay courts in Westmount Park and Stayner Park are therefore slightly delayed, and an official opening date will be confirmed in the coming days.
The Westmount tennis courts will be available only to residents that hold a Facility Membership card. No guest passes will be available for purchase, and previously purchased guest passes will not be accepted at this time. This will be reviewed once government-decreed safety measures are lifted.
Residents who wish to purchase their Facility Membership cards may contact the Sports and Recreation Department via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The tennis courts will be limited to singles play only, with a 30 minute maximum per match, unless no one is waiting for the court. No lessons will be permitted at this time.
A complete list of rules and regulations will be posted at the tennis courts and players will be expected to abide by them at all times. A Court Attendant will be present to ensure that the rules and regulations are being followed and to keep the area sanitized according to public health guidelines.
Should the City observe recurring breaches to the rules and regulations, the tennis courts will be shut down for the safety of all players.
