Reopening of De Maisonneuve Boulevard between Atwater and Wood

After more than two years of closure due to work by the STM, De Maisonneuve Boulevard will reopen to traffic between Atwater and Wood as of December 23.

A new configuration will be tested to encourage traffic calming while allowing vehicular access, particularly for emergency vehicles. As such, only one westbound lane will be open.

In the short term, this temporary solution:

  • allows access to emergency services
  • allows access to the drop-off ramp for residents of Alexis-Nihon apartment tour
  • limits through traffic and provide traffic calming
  • provides a drop-off for paratransit in front of Dawson College.

Temporary signage will reduce the width of the roadway. This initiative expands the space available for pedestrians and ensures their safety but does not allow for a parking lane. The reclaimed area may eventually be used as a public space, depending on the development of the pilot project.

The temporary configuration will be in place until spring 2022 or until further notice. This solution allows the City of Westmount to respond to the various needs of the population while testing some planning ideas for a human-scale city.
