Privacy and Confidentiality

The City of Westmount is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of any personal information you may provide when visiting our website. The City of Westmount manages the use of personal information in accordance with the standards set out in the Act Respecting Access to Documents Held by Public Bodies and the Protection of Personal Information (L.R.Q., c. A-2.1), and the Act to establish a Legal framework for information technology (RLRQ, chapter C-1.1).

Protection of Personal and Confidential Information

The City is committed to implementing technological, organizational, human, legal and ethical measures to ensure the security and confidentiality of the information provided by users on its website in order to obtain the desired services. Only the staff responsible for managing the digital platforms or providing the specific service will have access to the information provided.

Non-Disclosure of Personal Information

The City will not sell, rent or exchange personal information (e.g., name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, etc.) or financial information (e.g., credit card numbers) that could identify users. The City will not disclose such personal information unless required to do so by a legal obligation or court order, or in the context of a contract entrusted to a third party. Whenever the City retains the services of an external company, the City will use all appropriate means to ensure that your personal information is protected in accordance with the law applicable to the City and is collected, used, retained and destroyed in a manner consistent with the legislative and regulatory framework to which the City is subject.

User Responsibility

Users are responsible for the information they provide to the City of Westmount, and for maintaining the confidentiality of their identification information (user ID) and authentication information (user code, access code, password, access card, etc.). The City cannot be held responsible for any unauthorized use caused by the user. Users must also ensure that the system or equipment that they use to transmit or receive information from the City is sufficiently secure and exercise due care. The City shall not be responsible for unauthorized access to information resulting from negligence or vulnerabilities in the user’s equipment or system.

In the event that the confidentiality of a user’s information or his (or her) identity is compromised, the user is required to notify the City as soon as possible by contacting the appropriate department.
