New subsidy for the replacement of lead or galvanised steel private water service entries
On July 2, 2024, City Council authorized the launch of a subsidy program for the replacement of private lead or galvanised steel water service entries. The subsidy will cover 25% of eligible expenses, up to a maximum of $2,500 (taxes included). Eligible expenses include excavation, plumbing, backfill and restoration of the landscape to its original condition. New additions or landscape redesigns are not considered eligible expenses. Owners must apply for this grant after the work to replace their private lead or galvanised steel water pipes has been completed. The reimbursement will be issued to the owner of the property. Additional information may be required in the case of co-ownerships.
The subsidy program will come into effect on August 1, 2024. Residents wishing to apply for this grant will have to fill an application form (which will be available on August 1) and submit it to the City for approval within 12 months of the work being completed on the private portion of the lead or galvanised steel water service. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and the program is retroactive to January 1, 2023.
An amount of $500,000 has been allocated for this subsidy program in the City’s budget for 2024. Applications will be accepted until the funds earmarked for this programme for the calendar year are exhausted.
