After Greene Avenue, Sherbrooke Street will welcome public spaces designed to bring new life to the Victoria Village area. These parklets will provide a small oasis for anyone wishing to enjoy the local businesses.
The parklets will be installed around mid-August and will remain in place as long as good weather permits. They will be reused and relocated from year to year on the Westmount territory. Their sober and elegant design will blend harmoniously into the Westmount landscape.
The parklets will occupy the equivalent of 6 parking spaces on Sherbrooke Street between Victoria and Claremont. They are designed as modular units, each one the size of a single parking space. This year, 3 different parklets of 2 units will be set up.
Merchants have seen their indoor capacity greatly reduced due to required distancing measures. It was important for the City to rethink its public spaces to accommodate consumers with take-out food orders, or those who simply want to enjoy sitting outside.
The parklets initiative is yet another collaborative effort between the City of Westmount and local merchants’ associations. We hope that it will benefit the population for many years.
