New day shelter at Cabot Square
The new centre, Resilience Montreal, opened on Thursday, November 14, 2019. Located at the intersection of Sainte-Catherine Street West and Atwater Avenue, the new day shelter will provide food and services to homeless people. The opening of this centre is a response to a situation that had become increasingly problematic at Cabot Square and its surroundings since the relocation of the Open Door shelter last year.
The project was carried out by the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal and the Nazareth Community with the support of the City of Montreal and several partners, including the City of Westmount. Westmount Mayor, Christina M. Smith, was present at the inauguration along with Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante.
In her address, Mayor Smith said that the City of Westmount will continue to work with the City of Montreal to find long-term solutions for homeless people at Cabot Square.
