National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week: April 23 to 29, 2023

On Thursday, April 20 at 10 a.m., the City of Westmount raised the green ribbon flag in support of National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week, which will take place from April 23 to 29 this year. This event is an opportunity to draw attention to the critical need for donors in Canada, to encourage Canadians to formalize their decision to become donors and to discuss it with their loved ones.

Did you know that a single donor can save 8 lives and help up to 20 people through tissue donation? The needs in Quebec are significant, with 913 people waiting for an organ donation by the end of 2022. Giving consent to organ and tissue donation and informing loved ones of this decision makes things clear in a critical moment.

There are three formal ways to express consent: registration in the Registre des consentements au don d’organes et de tissus de la Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ), registration in the Registry of Consents to Organ and Tissue Donation of the Chambre des notaires du Québec and signing the sticker on the back of your health insurance card.
