National launch event for the TDSRC 2024 at the Library

The Westmount Public Library is honoured to have been selected to host the national launch event for the TD Summer Reading Club 2024 (TDSRC) on June 20. On this same day 125 years ago, in 1899, our Library opened its doors for the very first time. An unforgettable day!

Students were invited from local elementary schools to partake in the event, which followed this year’s theme for the TDSRC: To the stars. The young readers got to experience a mobile planetarium from PlateauAstro, and met the astronaut and Wesmounter Marc Garneau! This special guest read the new StoryWalk®, featuring the book The Darkest Dark by fellow astronaut Chris Hadfield with Kate Fillion and illustrated by the Fan Brothers.

Mayor Christina M. Smith gave the opening words to the event along with Children’s Librarian Wendy Wayling. Our member of the National Assembly for Westmount–Saint-Louis, Jennifer Maccarone, and our member of parliament for Notre-Dame-de-Grâce—Westmount, Anna Gainey, were also present alongside municipal councillors Elisabeth Roux (Library Commissioner) and Mary Gallery.
