Mayor’s statement: National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

On the 35th anniversary of the tragic events at École Polytechnique on December 6, 1989, we remember the 14 young women who lost their lives in this terrible feminicide.

This tragedy profoundly affected our common awareness of women’s rights. Today, despite progress over the years, it remains our collective responsibility to ensure that such atrocities are relegated to history. We must remain committed to combating all forms of violence and abuse against women, and people of any gender.

Let us honour the memory of the victims by actively working towards a society where everyone can live free from fear and violence.
