International Women’s Day: Exhibit and animation by the Famous 5 Foundation
Discover “Women are Persons!”, a maquette exhibit on display at Westmount City Hall as part of a national tour to inspire girls and women to be leaders and nation builders, and to raise awareness on equality issues.
The public is invited to visit the exhibit with animation by the Famous 5 Foundation on International Women’s Day:
- Friday, March 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- at City Hall (4333 Rue Sherbrooke Ouest)
The Famous 5 Foundation is inspired by five Canadian women who challenged laws and conventions in our country. They advocated for women, and their efforts led to women finally becoming recognized as “persons” in the fullest legal sense. Women could vote and be appointed to the Senate of Canada from 1929 on. The work of the Famous 5 had repercussions beyond our borders as other countries followed suit and modified their legal definition of the word “persons” to include both men and women.
