In memory of Colonel Hart
We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Honorary Colonel David Lloyd Hart, MM, CD of the 34th Signals Regiment. Colonel Hart had been an integral part of Westmount’s community: his unit has been based at the Royal Montreal Regiment armoury in Westmount and he was a long-standing friend of the RMR and of the City. He was 101 years old and had been awarded the Military Medal for bravery on the battlefield as a young Sergeant at the battle of Dieppe in 1942 before being commissioned as an infantry officer. Colonel Hart passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal surrounded by his family.
I had the privilege of meeting Colonel Hart on a few occasions and Westmounters that attend our Remembrance Day ceremonies will remember him laying a wreath in honour of those who gave their lives for their country.
The life of Colonel Hart was a reminder to us all of the importance of service to country. We are forever grateful to him and all who served and continue to serve our country.
My deepest, heartfelt sympathies go out to his family and loved ones. Let our memories of Colonel Hart live on.
Mayor Christina M. Smith
