Felling of sick and dead trees starts the week of June 29

Starting the week of June 29, 2020, the City will proceed with the felling of approximately 170 trees and 170 tree stumps on the public domain. The vast majority of the dead trees are ash trees that died due to the Emerald Ash Borer. The remaining removals are trees that are in danger of dying or causing a safety hazard. Trees that are about to be felled are marked with a red dot at the bottom of the trunk. Work may continue until December 18, 2020.

The City of Westmount plans to plant trees at each location where a tree will be cut down. Tree species to be planted will be decided by the City to ensure biodiversity and a balanced fit in the space. Some of the plantings will take place this fall and next spring.
