Please join us for a special screening of the film Beauty on the Wing: Life Story of the Monarch Butterfly, followed by a question and answer period with the Kim Smith, the director of the film.

You will also:

  • Learn more about the actions the City of Westmount has committed to undertake in helping save the Monarch butterfly.
  • Be able to obtain seeds in order to create your own butterfly garden.
  • Learn how you can reduce you environmental impact in your choice of protein sources. Did you know that cricket and plant-based proteins are considered super foods? The extra vitamins and minerals obtained from them, in addition to the Omega-3’s, Omega-6’s, and all the essential amino acids that crickets provide, make these products a complete protein source. Beauty on the Wing: Life Story of the Monarch Butterfly is a 56-minute narrated documentary film that takes place along the shores of Cape Ann and in the heart of Mexico’s forested volcanic mountains. Every stage of the Monarch butterfly’s life cycle is experienced in vibrant close-up, from egg to caterpillar to adult, and set to the background of sea and forest, sun and wind. A Q&A with director Kim Smith will follow the film.

About the Director
Kim Smith is an award winning documentary filmmaker, environmental conservationist, photojournalist, author, illustrator, and an award winning landscape designer. She specializes in creating pollinator habitat gardens utilizing primarily North American native wildflowers, trees, shrubs, and vines. Kim’s programs are developed from her documentary nature films and landscape design work.
