Donation of Walter Leja painting to Westmount
On July 2016, Robert Hyndra, on behalf of the Prytulak family, presented a painting by Walter Leja to the City of Westmount during a ceremony at the City Hall.
In 1963, the Front de libération du Québec planted bombs in Westmount. Walter Leja, then sergent-major in the Canadian Army had defused several explosives before being seriously wounded and losing the use of his hands. Despite his disability, Leja painted several canvases and his determination impressed many.
Westmount recognizes the bravery showed by Walter Leja during a difficult period in Quebec history and is grateful to the Prytulak family for this donation.
