COVID-19: gradual easing of confinement measures

The Gouvernement du Québec announced the gradual easing of COVID-19 health measures for all regions of Quebec. The easing of restrictions will be implemented in several stages over the next weeks.

As of May 28th:
The following reopening measures will apply to Montreal and to Westmount:

  • the lifting of the curfew;
  • the possibility of holding outdoor gatherings on private property (with a maximum of 8 people from different residences, or the occupants of two residences, while respecting the distancing measures);
  • the reopening of outdoor restaurant patios (maximum of 2 persons from different addresses at the same table, and who may be accompanied by their children under the age of 18; occupants from the same household may sit together at the same table);
  • the reopening of large halls and the possibility of accommodating a maximum of 2,500 people in separate 250-person areas in outdoor stadiums;
  • the lifting of travel bans between regions.

As of June 11th:
Outdoor bar areas will be allowed to reopen, with the same restrictions as restaurants. Supervised outdoor sports and recreation activities will be allowed, up to a maximum of 25 people.

As of June 25th:
Gatherings of fully-vaccinated individuals will be permitted in private residences. Day camps and summer camps will be allowed to reopen.

Also, festivals and other outdoor activities will be allowed to resume with a maximum of 2,500 people. Specific measures for festivals and large outdoor events will be announced at a later date.

Wearing of face coverings
Face coverings will continue to be required for people who are not fully vaccinated. As of June 25, fully-vaccinated individuals will no longer be required to wear face coverings when attending private gatherings. This measure will apply to some public places or events beginning in late August. Details of the measures will be announced at a later date.

Please note:

  • Adherence to health measures and screening for symptoms of COVID-19 remain very important over the next few months to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.
  • A person is considered fully vaccinated one week after receiving their second dose of COVID-19 vaccine. The second dose is necessary and provides optimal protection over the longer term.
