Winter in Westmount

It is the responsibility of property owners to clear snow and ice from the areas around collection bins to ensure the safety of employees. Do not place any waste on the public road or sidewalk to avoid obstructing snow removal.
The City’s contractors may refuse to collect inaccessible waste.

The collection day is determined by your collection sector and and your building type.
Recyclable materials (blue bin) are collected once weekly for all addresses, on Wednesdays.
Food waste (green bin) is collected once weekly, according to your collection sector.
Take advantage of the small-item recovery island at the Westmount Recreation Centre. Its purpose is to recover small items that are not accepted in the recycling collection, and that often end up in landfill, but that are recyclable and recoverable. Learn more

Visitors to Westmount may request an overnight parking permit free of charge. Tickets will be issued to vehicles parked overnight without a permit.
Snow removal operations, including salting and plowing, may take place at any time around the clock as needed. The priorities for snow clearing are:
Opt-in to snow removal notifications via the Citizen Portal and be notified by SMS or email of snow clearing operations. The progress of ongoing snow clearing operations may be tracked directly from your mobile device or online with the Info-Neige app, online or on your mobile device.
During snow removal operations, signs indicating parking restrictions will be installed at least 12 hours before operations begin on any given street.
Frigid winter weather increases the demand on Hydro Westmount’s electrical grid, potentially leading to overloaded circuits and power interruptions. Furthermore, heavy penalties are charged to the City of Westmount for over-consumption. That is why Hydro Westmount asks customers to reduce electricity use, especially during peak hours, when the temperature dips below -18oC:
Delay using major appliances until after these periods, particularly those requiring hot water like dishwashers and laundry machines. It is sustainable and cost-effective to reduce energy consumption during intense cold weather.
