ASD Social Sensory Discovery: new program offered by Sports & Recreation
In January 2019, the Sports and Recreation Department will offer, for the first time, an ASD Social Sensory Discovery Program, created by local resident Isabelle Toussaint, who saw a need for this type of programming in Westmount. She is fitness and yoga certified.

Description
The ASD Social Sensory Discovery Program is a program providing a variety of stimulating extra curricular activities in a welcoming, fun and adapted environment for primary school aged children living with ASD in the Westmount community. Participants need to be accompanied by a caregiver for the duration of the sessions to ensure safety, maximize participation in activities, and promote meaningful social interactions.
The program curriculum includes:
- Gross motor activities: running skills, obstacle courses, dance, and yoga
- Fine motor activities: arts and crafts, Lego and STEM activities (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics)
- Social activities: Circle time (themed discussions) and active social skills games.
