Purpose of position

The work consists of performing various analysis tasks related to projects requiring the issuance of permits and certificates. In addition, the incumbent ensures that the necessary analyses are carried out at the normative level (Zoning, subdivision, construction, permits and certificates, etc.) and at the discretionary level (objectives and criteria of the regulations on PIIA, PPCMOI, Conditional Uses, etc.) and the regulatory application of the Urban Planning Department.

In addition, his work consists of inspecting lots, premises and buildings to ensure compliance with by-laws, laws and regulations governing construction, demolition, zoning, signs, fire protection, sanitation, housing, plumbing and ventilation.

Qualifications

  • Hold a college diploma (DEC) with the appropriate profile and from the relevant field, such as architectural technology or urban planning.

Experience

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in building inspection, permitting or site supervision.

Examples of tasks to be accomplished

  1. Receives, analyzes, processes and verifies the conformity of applications for permits and certificates of authorization, occupancy, etc. provided for in the by-law on permits and certificates; ensures their conformity with the urban planning regulations and issues the necessary permits and certificates. If necessary, prepares and completes certain related documents and forwards them to the municipal departments concerned;
  2. Records applications and all relevant information on the appropriate software and follows up with the applicants regarding the filing of an application for a permit or certificate concerning the urban planning regulations applicable by the Urban Planning Department ;
  3. Informs applicants of various requests, which may concern future projects, general information related to urban planning or the progress of their file, etc.;
  4. Inspects, following complaints, preventive audits, the issuance of permits and certificates of authorization, construction sites and real estate properties to ensure that regulations are respected. Follows up with applicants. Records and updates inspections and requests in the appropriate software;
  5. Identifies non-compliances, notifies the appropriate person, issues correction notices, ensures compliance with the corrective measures and, if necessary, issues notices of violation. Records notices and findings in the appropriate software.

Other requirements

  • Hold a valid driver’s license (class 5).

Knowledge of

  • The appropriate sectors of activity;
  • The regulatory framework and legislative standards in force;
  • French and English, written and spoken.
