Urban Planning Advisor
Purpose of position
Under the responsibility of the Assistant Director, the incumbent coordinates mandates in the field of architecture, urban planning and heritage. The main responsibilities are to recommend orientations and priorities and to coordinate the organization of staff work within the framework of normative and discretionary urban planning files that must be submitted to various committees or commissions (Planning Advisory Committee, Local Heritage Council , etc.).
In addition, the person must collaborate in implementing procedures, practices, and standards for the work to be carried out. She implements actions to achieve set objectives and deadlines. Lastly, she is responsible for proposing efficient processes and procedures in a spirit of continuous improvement in customer service.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in urban planning, architecture, administration or any other relevant field;
- Be a member in good standing of the Ordre des urbanistes du Québec or the Ordre des architectes du Québec.
Experience
- A minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience in planning and coordination of urban project.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop innovative tools for analyzing and weighting discretionary urban planning tools (SPAIP, SCAOPI, minor exemptions, etc.).
- Designs and evaluates private and public development projects in terms of urban planning, architecture, urban design and sustainable development, both in terms of concepts and development proposals.
- Contributes to the preparation of recommendations and the follow-up of files arising from the application of the City’s discretionary urban planning by-laws.
- Ensures compliance with the application of discretionary urban planning by-laws.
- Meets with the City’s external and internal partners to inform them of changes to be made to their projects or of any matter falling within its area of expertise and proposes solutions.
- Writes and prepares reports of a regulatory, graphic, or other nature, as well as presentations and information documents.

- Of both languages (French, English) spoken and written;
- Of the following software: Office Suite, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator;
- Of Autocad and geomatics software (JMap);
- Of 3D modeling programs is an asset (3D analyst, City Engine and SketchUp Pro).
