Purpose of position

The work consists of performing various tasks of a technical and administrative nature relating to the design, preparation, and implementation of building renovation, restoration, construction, and demolition projects, involving the areas of plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, controls, fire protection, refrigeration, etc. In addition, the work consists of determining cost estimates, writing specifications, preparing contract documents and calls for tenders, etc.

Qualifications

  • Specialized college diploma with the appropriate profile and in the relevant field.

Experience

  • Two (2) years of experience in a job that familiarizes the candidate with this field.

Example of tasks

  1. Carrying out studies, research, inspections, and analyses required for estimating the costs of repairs and modifications and for the preparation of equipment and device maintenance programs and projects; producing reports of relevant findings and recommendations.
  2. Studying the operation and repair and maintenance methods of existing equipment and devices using plans, instruction books, catalogues, and other documents.
  3. Making or verifying calculations of heat gains and losses, water demands, air exchange for ventilation, cooling and heating capacities, filtration system flow, among others, which may be required for maintenance and modification work and the preparation of equipment and device maintenance standards and projects.
  4. After consulting technical documentation, determining the choice of equipment and devices, such as boilers, water coolers, ventilators, plumbing devices, water reservoirs, heating elements, filters, pumps, ducts, piping, etc., according to federal, provincial, and municipal regulations and standards.

Superior knowledge of

  • Mechanical equipment and systems used in buildings;
  • Operating and control diagrams and drawings;
  • Building electricity;
  • Municipal, provincial, and federal regulations governing mechanical facilities and construction;

Good knowledge of

  • Construction;
  • The drafting of specifications;
  • Estimating and evaluating the cost of work;
  • Spoken and written French and English;
  • General and applied mathematics.

Knowledge of

  • Topography and topometry;
  • Municipal administrative procedures and organization;
  • Basic principles of some related specialties.
