Superintendent – Roads and Parks, Second Posting
Purpose of position
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Public Works, the incumbent plans, organizes, manages and controls the operational activities relating to parks and green spaces and any other public space, as well as providing support for activities related to the maintenance and rehabilitation of roads, sidewalks, access wells, catch basins, and street signs.
In this context, he or she must conduct research, analyze data, collect and formulate recommendations on work methods and equipment in order to optimize the efficiency of operations. He or she must work closely with the Superintendent – Roads to plan the required manpower to carry out the various operational activities.
Furthermore, he or she participates in the preparation of the unit's annual budget, ensures its implementation, manages costs and recommends effective solutions. He or she manages the human, financial, material and information resources of the unit.
Qualifications
- Specialized College Diploma relevant to the position.
- Completion of at least ten (10) management courses is considered an asset.
Experience
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience, including at least two (2) years in team management or coordination, allowing the incumbent to acquaint him or herself with the responsibilities of the position, such as:
- - Maintenance of parks and green spaces
- - Snow removal operations and snow loading
- - Management of work related to landscaping, tree maintenance and rehabilitation of various public facilities, etc.
Main Responsabilities
- Plan and determine the human resources required for the running of operations, the guidelines and the objectives according to the Department’s mission.
- Oversee the training of the personnel, ensure that the work methods are understood and that the equipment is properly used in accordance with the standards of the C.N.E.S.S.S.T.
- Plan and supervise all operations involving the collection of dead leaves, the maintenance of parks, access wells in parks, furniture and the painting of poles, ramps, fences, etc.
- Coordinate and participate with the superintendents concerning various work related to buildings, roads and water supply and sewer system, and is on call rotation with those superintendents.
- Prepare specifications for calls for tenders, obtain quotes, recommend, hire and supervise contractors who perform the work; Meet and interact with representatives of other government agencies in order to coordinate work.
- Prepare reports on claims and appear before the court when required.
