Purpose of position

The job involves preparing the content of activities, courses, workshops, etc. related to a socio-cultural discipline, according to the target clientele. To this end, the incumbent develops content related to his/her/their field field of expertise, from initiation to advanced training. In addition, the incumbent must lead or teach clients in an engaging and enthusiastic manner while maintaining good order during periods of instruction.

Qualifications

  • Holds a DEC in appropriate profile and sector.

Experience

  • Minimum of six (6) months of relevant experience.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Prepares the content of courses, activities, cultural outreach projects and workshops, based on the target clientele and taking into account the standards and directives issued by his/her/their supervisor ((Librarian – Programming and Outreach).
  2. Maintains discipline and good order during classes and activities.
  3. Ensures that materials are distributed, transported and put away at the end of each activity. Uses materials and equipment as needed.
  4. Represents the department at off-site symposia, conferences, and other outreach events.
  5. Performs all other related tasks.

Essential Knowledge

  • Knowledge of makerspace, fab lab or medialab environments, specifically in public libraries;
  • Knowledge of makerspace equipment (including maintenance and repair);
  • Experience in facilitating group activities;
  • Knowledge of basic teaching principles;
  • Awareness of marketing and advocacy strategies targeting different age groups;
  • Experience in problem-solving, maker issues, and customer service;
  • French and English (spoken and written).

Abilities and Skill

  • To participate in the development of the makerspace project (including equipment selection, purchasing, reception, and inventory);
  • To maintain, repair, and update makerspace equipment and software (e.g. computers, iPads, photo/audio/video editing software, coding programs, crafting equipment, etc.);
  • To lead and teach groups basic and advanced techniques in an engaging way;
  • To write work-related documents;
  • To maintain good order;
  • To work collaboratively in a team and to take initiative;
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills.

Work Schedule

  • From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. four (4) days a week, plus one (1) evening from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Friday;
  • On a rotating basis, every three (3) weeks), one (1) Saturday or Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
