Purpose of position

Schedule: part-time, may vary from week to week, includes days, evenings and weekends.

This position consists of cleaning and maintaining the Library and the Victoria Hall buildings, and, when required, other buildings belonging to the City; installing equipment for meetings, activities, and events in various rooms; as well as providing assistance.

The incumbent must also welcome members of the public; provide basic information; and ensure both compliance with directives and the proper use of City property. Additionally, the incumbent shall be responsible for the set-up of the rooms and equipment provided for meetings of various community groups and for cultural activities.

The work involved in this position does not require previous experience. Work shall be conducted under close supervision, with precise instructions given for each new task. The incumbent shall be responsible primarily for accomplishing assigned tasks, in compliance with the instructions given. A senior staff member shall routinely ensure that the work is completed as requested.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma;
  • Valid driver's licence;
  • Bilingualism, spoken and written (French and English).

Experience

  • Several experiences having enabled the incumbent to become familiar with the work involved.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Opening and inspecting the building, ensuring there are no irregularities, and noting any problems;
  2. Performing routine rounds of the buildings to ensure order and compliance with rules regarding the use of the premises and of City property, and to ensure that doors are locked and windows are closed as required;
  3. Being responsible for the set-up of all rooms for meetings, activities, and events. This includes preparing tables, chairs, coffee, and setting out food, beverages, and dishes;
  4. Cleaning rooms after meetings, etc., including cleaning dishes, glasses, and utensils, and storing furniture and supplies;
  5. Maintaining, cleaning, and tidying kitchens, washrooms, and other areas. Cleaning the stove, refrigerator, sink, counters, and toilets as needed, and restocking toilet paper when necessary;
  6. Maintaining the registry of the department’s furnishings and supplies such as tables, chairs, and coolers, as well as other items including audio-visual equipment.
