Geomatics Technician – Photogrammetric
Purpose of position
The work primarily involves producing maps and basic plans using various processes as well as entering and/or manipulating computer data or other types of data using an integrated system consisting of, among other things, a stereoscopic plotter, an electronic coordinatograph, a geographical information system (GIS), a computer, etc.
Qualifications
- A specialized college diploma, appropriate sector and profile.
Experience
- Two (2) years of work experience in a position that enabled the incumbent to become familiar with the field of employment.
Main Responsibilities
- Reviews mapping requests, identifies and discusses with immediate manager the specifics and techniques to be used.
- Enters, extracts, transfers, modifies various pieces of data for processing purposes (e.g. calculating area, volumes, routes, positioning, windowing, etc.) for the preparation of maps and drawings, and does so using the required tools such as an electronic coordinatograph, a computer, etc., while following existing work methods and/or standards.
- Is involved in technical research and testing, the drafting of various documents including standards and specifications and user/maintenance guides for various devices or accessories, etc.
- Responds to requests for information about the plans and maps produced or to be produced by a geographic information system (GIS).
Job Profile
knowledge of
- The operation of devices used in photogrammetry, cartographic drafting instruments and principles, materials;
- Graphic art processes used in mapping;
- Mapping automation;
- Features of aerial shots (scales, cameras, films and filters to be used);
- Statistical and thematic mapping;
- Data structuring concepts applied to the geomatics platform;
- Software used in the field of geomatics (mainly desktop tools).
