Division Head – Parks and Green Spaces
Purpose of position
Reporting to the Director of Public Works, the incumbent manages the operational activities related to the maintenance of infrastructures, parks, urban furniture, playgrounds, sports fields and public spaces. In this context, he/she must plans, organizes and controls the various activities related to parks and public spaces. In addition, he/she must supervises the execution of work by the superintendents of his/her division as well as by external resources and companies that are solicited to carry out the mandates. He/she participates with his superior in the realization of various special projects by providing the necessary expertise in planning, operations and preventive maintenance of facilities.
The incumbent is also responsible for holding various calls for tenders related to maintenance work and for managing the resulting contracts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: landscape architecture, urban design, administration, any other related discipline.
- Hold a valid driver's license (class 5).
Experience
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience, including at least two (2) years in team management or coordination that allowed the incumbent to become familiar with the responsibilities of the position.
Main Responsibilities
- In collaboration with his manager, sets the direction, objectives, and priorities according to the Department’s mission;
- Manages the human, financial, material and information resources of his department in accordance with the rules, standards, regulations and collective agreements in force. Oversee the training of his employees and prepare the administrative reports necessary for management;
- Plans, organizes, manages and controls the activities related to the maintenance of the infrastructures, parks, sports fields and public spaces of his department as well as the evaluation of the needs for materials and products;
- Develops projects for the maintenance of infrastructure, parks, urban furniture, playground, sports fields and public spaces. Completes specifications and plans and supervises the work by managing contracts.

- Current regulations and standards for plants and pesticide use;
- Botany, horticulture and arboriculture in an urban environment;
- Windows software programs (Word, Excel, MS Project, );
- English and French (spoken and written).
