Purpose of position

6 month contract

The primary responsibility of the incumbent is to provide communications advice and guidance to department management or managers. For that purpose, the incumbent recommends action plans, communication strategies and provides follow-ups on programs, projects or other activities that arise from them.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree appropriate to the position or a relevant academic training to become familiar with the nature of the job. Communication, graphic design or any other related discipline.

Experience

  • Have two (2) years of experience making it possible to become familiar with the position's responsibilities.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Provides advisory and liaison assistance to managers by recommending action plans, communication strategies, distribution techniques based on target clients and other internal or external communication activities;
  2. Designs, develops, introduces, evaluates internal and external communication tools and products, oversees their use and distribution;
  3. Designs, develops and executes the graphic design and layout of internal and external communications materials;
  4. Supports various stakeholders in planning, distributing or presenting communication activities and coordinates the logistics associated with those activities;
  5. Looks after the writing, editing and revision or reworking, if necessary, of internal and external communication texts, tools or means to ensure they are relevant and effective.
  6. Handles press relations and acts as the City’s representative in matters or projects connected with his/her field.

Knowledge

  • both languages (French, English);
  • office technology connected with the job, in Windows and/or a Mac environment;
  • graphic design software (Adobe Suite: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign);
  • establishing website, intranet or other sites.

Skills or abilities

  • writing communication-related texts;
  • coordinating the logistics connected with the planning, distribution or presentation of various communication activities;
  • maintaining interpersonal relationships, working in teams;
  • having a good sense of judgement, independence and thoroughness;
  • able to provide advice and assist managers.
