Purpose of position

The work consists of managing one or more recreational facilities as part of an established programme, coordinating and monitoring the activities of employees who provide teaching or supervise the facilities, and developing programmes of activities. Likewise, the person must teach certain disciplines related to recreational activities such as hockey, skating, soccer, etc. As well, he or she must identify the needs in this regard and ensure compliance with established standards and regulations affecting these disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Specialized college diploma (DEC) and appropriate profile and sector.

Experience

  • The position requires two (2) to less than three (3) years of experience in a relevant occupation that allows the incumbent to teach recreational activities and to get acquainted with the work environment.

Examples of tasks to be accomplished

  1. Coordinate and supervise the activities of employees assigned to teaching recreational disciplines or sports or to supervising recreational or sports facilities and ensure that the work performed meets the set objectives.
  2. Teach certain disciplines related to recreational activities such as hockey, skating, soccer, etc. when the instructor is absent.
  3. Assign tasks; select and enforce work methods and procedures; ensure that deadlines are met.
  4. Ensure the implementation of a programme of activities, organize and supervise its execution.
  5. Ensure customer participation and satisfaction; motivate employees.

Good knowledge of:

  • Techniques and principles of recreational activities such as hockey, skating, soccer, etc.; safe environment, practices and rules for recreational activities;
  • First aid, artificial respiration or cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques;
  • French and English, spoken and written.

Skills and abilities:

  • To coordinate and monitor the work of employees;
  • To teach recreational activities such as hockey, skating, soccer, etc.;
  • To organize and coordinate a recreational activity programme;
  • To demonstrate initiative and judgment;
  • To assess the quality of the teaching of recreational disciplines;
  • To draft clear and concise reports.
